The Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice is organizing a new cycle of meetings within the South-Asian Linguistics Meeting Series, dedicated to Buddhist philology and linguistics between India and China.
The series will host talks by international scholars focusing on the adoption of Sanskrit, the linguistic polyphony of early Buddhism, and the Gāndhārī language.

- November 25, 2025 (past event): Vincent Eltschinger (École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris) – Why Did the Buddhists Adopt Sanskrit?
- December 2, 2025, 5:00 p.m.: Vincent Tournier (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) – Recovering the Early Buddhist Linguistic Polyphony: Remarks on Less-Studied Buddhist Nikāyas and Their Linguae Sacrae
- December 9, 2025, 5:00 p.m.: Stefan Baums (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) – The Gandhārī Language: Sources, Structure, and History
- December 16, 2025 (time to be confirmed): Francesco Barchi (Universiteit Leiden) – Beyond the Gandhārī Hypothesis

The meetings will take place online via Zoom.
The final meeting on December 16 will also offer the possibility of attending in person. The venue and time will be announced at a later date.
